As one finds their way through the bamboo and palm-fringed entry of ‘Fruit Bowl’, one is struck by the often-elusive feeling of being instantly “home”. A place you can feel family have thoroughly enjoyed and love has truly thrived.
Fruit Bowl – Caribbean chic waterfront home on North Sound
Designed for Inside Out living, the house itself is a beautiful French Caribbean influenced structure full of coastal romanticism, and a heady mix of steeply pitched and gently sloping roofs with wide overhangs and wraparound verandas exuding palpable tranquillity.
Gloriously, this home is set amidst lush mature landscaping, occupying an oversized lot with sweeping unobstructed views of the North Sound from its privileged vantage point. ‘Fruit Bowl’ is arguably the private belle of Patrick’s Island, a tropical haven set amidst the canal-filled residential community of Grand Cayman.
A shade of canary calm, this plantation “feel” home could certainly be mistaken for an artist’s residence with muted colour and creativity around every corner not to mention the current owner’s much revered artwork collection. The house was even named after a local artist’s mosaic to be found set in the driveway.
A tranquil Caribbean family home
With more than 7,700 square feet of space and light, this chic and airy home is packed full of inventive living space and features five sizeable bedrooms, a bright office den, four full bathrooms and a powder room.
The ground floor level features open plan living and dining rooms accentuated with French doors, tray ceilings and a warm centre isle kitchen with pantry. The chic pocket bar off the formal dining area, surely belonging on the pages of Architectural Digest, boasts custom millwork and integrated wine refrigerators. There is a feeling of colonial temper but with carefully chosen modern accents such as neutral beaded chandeliers and designer upholstered, wood carved, and wicker backed seating.
Fruit Bowl’s Chef Kitchen
The elongated Chef’s kitchen equipped with granite countertops, seated bar and central extractor hood, is very much the heart of the home with spectacular watercolour views through the casual yet dream like sitting room beyond. This is indeed the ideal hub for ‘happy hour’ socializing and milling whilst preparing meals.
Off the kitchen, and beyond the pantry, benches that scream “Get home from school and kick your shoes off” line the boastfully happy boot room, surely a pet’s dream with feature cabinetry and dog bed pockets. A continuation of the space leads to an advantageous and private ground floor “granny flat” or guest suite consisting of a large bedroom, kitchenette, full bathroom and a walk-in closet, perfect for occasional guests of visiting family members.
A happy boot room
The upstairs floor level consists of a sumptuous primary suite with cleverly added light-filled home office den and oversized walk-in closets. The three additional bedrooms (one of which currently serves as a director’s office) and a rain shower bathroom all have stunning views, and most are gifted with walk-out balconies and Bahamian shutters from which to best capture the tropical breezes and hear the abundant bird life singing.
The ultimate retreat
For maximum enjoyment of the views of the blues and fore mentioned outdoor aspects, within the fenced gardens surrounds, there are multiple patios to enjoy and resting palm fringed lawns crying out for a game of badminton or bocce.
The serene swimming pool, sun deck and twinkle light adorned covered dining area (which both inadvertently look like they came straight out of the movie “a good year”) and a dockside gazebo seating area provide plenty of options for outdoor living, garden activity and evening entertaining.
Serene outdoor spaces
A garden flag stone path leads one to the gazebo itself, which is incorporated into the dock, giving one the feeling of sitting aboard a vessel on the ocean itself as the waves lap beneath.
If all of the above doesn’t make you want to move in immediately then perhaps the three-car garage and private boat ramp with ocean access might move the needle!
